Mud that is deposited over long periods of time in sediment around thermal springs and in sea and lake beds; it is essentially comprised of clay, a product of the weathering of different rocks, particularly feldspar and mica. Once turned into powder, it is easily swept up in water currents and deposited in the sediment of river banks or at the bottom of seas or lakes.
